Your headlights are a crucial safety feature in your vehicle. When yours aren’t working, it’s important to replace them promptly. Kirby Subaru of Ventura shares how to replace a Subaru headlight bulb.
Ordering a New Subaru Headlight Bulb
Before you can replace your headlight bulb, you’ll need a new one. You can quickly order a new bulb on our website. You can search for your vehicle by model, trim, and year, or by your vehicle identification number (VIN). If you prefer, visit our parts department and our team can help.
Gather Tools
Next, you need to ensure you have all the appropriate supplies. You’ll need a screwdriver and gloves. You’ll also need a panel popper, which you can buy at many retailers or auto parts stores.
Accessing the Headlights
To start, open the hood of your vehicle. The headlights are in a housing unit, although they’re typically covered by other parts, such as the windshield wiper fluid reservoir. You’ll need to remove these blocking parts by pulling out their retainer pins.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Every Subaru model differs, so these instructions may not apply to your vehicle. If you’re unclear about the process, we recommend bringing your vehicle in to our dealership to ensure everything is handled properly. A typical bulb replacement will look something like this:
- Once you’ve removed any blocking components, remove the plastic cover.
- Release the pin holding your bulb in place by pushing it in and pulling the bulb out.
- Remove the old bulb and replace it with the new one.
- Secure it in place with the pin.
- Lock the plastic cover back on.
- Replace all the other components back as they were before you removed them.
