New Subaru Technology Terms Explained
Subaru vehicle terminology
A new Subaru vehicle comes loaded with brand-specific technology names that mean more once you understand what each one actually does on the road. Kirby Subaru of Ventura put this glossary together to give you a head start before you visit our Ventura showroom. Five core Subaru technologies are covered below, from the drivetrain architecture to the performance management system.
Eyesight® Driver Assist Technology
Stereo cameras at the upper windshield of new Subaru models give Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology a wide, continuous read on lane markings, surrounding vehicles, and road conditions ahead. Where it is available on your new Subaru vehicle, EyeSight® can activate Pre-Collision Braking, hold a set following distance through Adaptive Cruise Control, and support Lane Centering on demanding stretches of highway.
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive®
Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive® routes power to all four wheels through a drivetrain built around one longitudinal axis shared by the engine, transmission, and driveshafts. That symmetry keeps weight balanced across the vehicle and supports sharp, composed handling on California mountain passes, coastal curves, and everything Ventura County puts between them.
StarLink™ Safety and Security
Through a built-in cellular connection, Subaru StarLink™ Safety and Security links your vehicle to remote management and emergency response. Check diagnostics, lock or unlock from the MySubaru app, and if a collision occurs, the system automatically relays your location to emergency responders, even when you cannot place a call.
LinearTronic® CVT
The Lineartronic® CVT abandons fixed gear steps entirely, adjusting the drive ratio fluidly across a continuous range to keep the engine in its most efficient window at any speed. A dedicated launch gear handles the off-the-line surge, giving the Lineartronic® CVT a more direct, confident feel through stop-and-go stretches.
SI-DRIVE™ (Subaru Intelligent Drive)
SI-DRIVE™ puts throttle response and power delivery directly in your hands through selectable drive modes you can switch on the fly. On equipped new Subaru models, Intelligent mode smooths throttle input for relaxed, efficient daily use, while Sport mode sharpens response for a more demanding feel on winding coastal roads.
